Meet the Psychologist

Dr. Kathryn Wright, PsyD. has had the honor of practicing as a Clinical Psychologist since 1999. She specializes in the assessment and treatment of adults with trauma, PTSD/Complex PTSD, dissociation, and anxiety disorders. She became a Certified EMDR therapist through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) in 2006. She is currently an EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training, offering  EMDR consultation to therapists who wish to improve their EMDR skills and/or pursue EMDRIA certification.

Dr. Wright works with a wide variety of issues beyond trauma, including depression, relationship difficulties, job stress, low self-esteem, perfectionism, adult ADHD, work-life balance, the effects of cancer and chronic medical illness, phobias, traumatic motor vehicle accidents, spiritual and multicultural concerns. She has extensive experience working with diverse populations and LGBTQ+ clients who have suffered from discrimination, intolerance and/or trauma. She also enjoys working with medical professionals, other therapists, executives/managers, and faculty.

Although her main theoretical lens is the Adaptive Information Processing Model, Dr. Wright’s work is informed by neurobiological perspectives on trauma, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, alternative/holistic approaches to healing, and humanistic/client-centered therapy.

  • Dr. Wright has enjoyed public speaking engagements to various audiences on the topics of EMDR Therapy and trauma.
  • She has authored numerous online articles and has appeared on WRAL TV5 and National Public Radio on the subjects of the role of gender in computer and video games, the portrayal of female characters in games, media literacy/effects, internet behavior, and women in technology.
